This was a new build house and my job for this project was to source and install furniture, window treatments and finishing touches to the living area, dining area and two bedrooms. The homeowners bought this house to serve as a holiday type home but to also have somewhere to stay that was a little closer to their son and his wife.
Like all projects I take on, we started with an initial consultation to find out what they were looking to achieve; their likes, dislikes and some lifestyle information. My clients were very easy going and my only parameters were to stay within budget, to keep the neutral color on the walls and to inject some fun bright colors into the property, although they weren’t too keen on the color green. After looking through some of my past work they actually said ‘do whatever you think will look good’.
With these points in mind, I went away and created a fun, color block scheme with tropical accents. In all the rooms, I wanted to keep the larger furniture items either white or neutral, then add pops of color and print using textiles and rugs, smaller furniture items, ornaments and artwork. For example, for the dining area; I used a modern white dining table, then added bright yellow Eames style chairs to give that area of the room a splash of color. Again, in the bedroom I kept the bed frame, bed linen, nightstands and the dresser white, but introduced prints and color using tropical style cushions, a bright geometric rug and statement artwork above the bed.
This was such an enjoyable project and I was very pleased with the end result of the house. I still keep in touch with my clients from this house and they love visiting their second home.
